Joyce Pillarella, Oral Historian, The Italians in Montreal, The Italians in Ville Emard

Eventually I'll get this site up and running, but right now I'm too busy writing. However if you would like to know more about this project, or you'd like to contribute something, please send me an email....I love listening!

I'm presently writing the history of the Italians that lived in a working-class industrial neighbourhood in Montreal, called Ville Emard. The work is based on interviews with three generations that grew up in this area. Their voices tell us the story of who we are, why we're here, the relationships between place and people, the meanings of community and lots of great stories that reveal meanings, truths and the subculture of the Italians in Montreal. All this is told in the local vernacular. The project has involved teenagers from my Italian school class and many members from the community.

Here are a few links to some stuff on the web about Ville Emard and this project.
